The Department of Visual and Performing Arts invites interested and qualified students to apply for the new MSMU Music Scholarship.

This scholarship (renewable up to four years) is available to students of any major for participation in the department's flagship musical ensembles:

• The MSMU Chorale
• The MSMU Wind Ensemble
• The MSMU String Ensemble

Scholarship Details

• Open to first year students entering in fall 2025
• Applicants do not need to be a major in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts to apply
• Applicants must complete the application and submit a video recording of their musical performance that is representative of their most advanced level of technique and artistry.
  • Instrumentalists: two contrasting works for your primary instrument (etudes, solos, or substantial excerpts), accompanied or unaccompanied, totaling approximately 10-15 minutes of music
  • Vocalists: two contrasting arias, arts songs, or musical theatre pieces; all pieces must be suitable for your voice type. Performance must be accompanied live or with a pre-recorded accompaniment track.
• Recordings of prior concerts or performances will NOT be accepted
• Recordings made on smart phones or tablets are acceptable as long as the visual and audio quality is clear
• Recording must be submitted as a link to YouTube
• All applications and recordings will be reviewed by music faculty of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts.
